The National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of our College is affiliated to the West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate, Kolkata B Group. This course has become popular among the students as it develops a keen sense of discipline and qualities of leadership. The performance of our cadets during the last decade has been remarkable. Every year cadets join several National – Level and State – Level Camps on National Integration, Rock – Climbing, RD Parade, Army Attachment etc. In order to make the students conversant with the army way of life, arrangement has been made by the College to enroll the cadets in Infantry/ Navy/ Air Force Branch of NCC. Classes are held on Sundays at Fort William and ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificate examinations are held every year. Successful cadets get special package and priority in jobs of Central & State Government, Public Sector Undertakings and some Private Houses. There are attractive scholarships and incentives for the deserving cadets.

In 2003 – 04, one cadet from our College joined the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi and one was selected for joining YE Program in Singapore. In 2007 – 08, three SW Cadets and two SD Cadets from our College joined LRDC on Red Road. At present, the strength of this unit is 160 cadets and it is open to both boy and girl students.


National Social Service (NSS) now regarded as the third dimension of education (the first two being teaching/learning and research), provides ample scope to teachers and students to engage in extension activities like social and community service. NSS Volunteers are allowed to participate in different programs like Orientation Program, Special Camping Program, National Integration Camps, Youth Exchange Camps, R.D. Camps etc. it offers them the opportunity to manifest their dedication and commitment towards society.

The NSS unit of this college established in 2010 is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. It is open to both boys and girls and enrollment is offered at the end of every year in July. Its present strength of volunteers is about 100.

The NSS Unit led by Prof. Anil Saha held a week-long (24 to 31 March, 2012) special camp at Phulbagan Slum, Ward No. 10, on ‘Health & Education Awareness’. Free Health Check-ups & Eye-Screening Test, Cultural Programmes & Distribution of School Accessories, were some of the regular activities of the camp. A free blood test for Thalassemia detection was organized on 21 March, 2012 in association with Nilratan Sarkar College & Hospital. The camp concluded with great fanfare at the College Library Hall through a display of extra curricular talent by the slum children. IIIrd tear student, Imran Alam, was awarded ‘Outstanding Volunteer’ title by the University of Calcutta for the year 2011 – 12.
